As you can see on the date, we are quickly approaching Christmas 2016.
We are blessed to having received already many Christmas card and New Years wishes.
If you are the sender of one of these our sincere thanks to you.
Writing cards is not something Jane has been up to for some time, so we like to use our blog spot to extend our best wishes for you and yours for the holiday season.
On December 7 we again had a consultation with the oncologists in London at which time they shared with us the results of the last CT scan. Although there is some concern about changes the scan  showed and not being quite sure as to the character of the spots showing up on this last scan, another scan is planned for around February 1 next year to see if any more changes have occurred at that time.
We were encouraged to not dwell on this latest report which has proved not to be that difficult so far as right after the London clinic visit we drove to the US for family visits.
Blessed with the family Christmas celebration in Crown Point Indiana at Marcel and Shelly's place.
So good to be with all of us there in one place.  Thank you Lord.
Came home last Wednesday in some pretty inclement weather but made it home safe.
Found everything well taken care of in our absence. Thanks to  Dan Stutzman.
Looking forward to the church Christmas services, starting tonight with a candlelight service.
Certainly looking forward to those times with our church family.
Also enjoying time spent with Henry and Henrietta Swinkels who are living in the farm house apartment till next spring at which time they hope to migrate back to their cottage on Lake Couchiching.
There still is livestock in the barns, mainly calves and some cows who require regular daily attention.
A routine which gives me a good rhythm in my live. As well as the time I spend working in the shop.
I have been clearing snow ever since we came home with several inches of fresh snow each day.
Very safe to say that we should have a white Christmas here, pretty well a must around here for without it it does not feel like Christmas.
In closing we pray for all of you to experience the real reason for the season for if Jesus had not come most of us would only have one day off, New Years day.  Lol.
Greetings Marinus and Jane.

July 2016 Update

Well again it has been awhile since our last updated.
At the time of our last update, winter was still hanging on and spring a ways away.
Now that we are in July we wonder what ever happened to spring. That trancition often is a mere days here in this part of Ontario rather then weeks or months.
The Affatanib chemo program still appears to be stopping any progression of the cancer in Jane's body and it was decided in April that her appointments in London are now 8 weeks instead of 4.
before the June appointment another CT scan was ordered and its findings were reviewed at the June appointment and showed no change. CT scans will now be scheduled about twice per year. A bone scan is planned before the August appointment since she has not had one for a couple of years.
These scan results will be used as benchmark for tests an or evaluations.
All this is encouraging for Jane, myself and the family. We are most thankful to God who in His grace is giving us many many more days then we thought we would have in March 2012.
Sure a lot has changed for us, but we are both okay with that. Truly for us each day is a gift.
Our last meeting in London was on June 22 the day of our anniversary. Right after that I drove Jane to Port Huron Michigan where we met up with Benjamin, Lucas and Evan who took Jane with them to stay till the baby would come ( a surprise for Kelly). The baby was due July 4 but as some of you may know already he (Brock Kelly Noordermeer) was going to wait till then and decided to "face" the world at 8.45 pm after 2 hours of labor. After baling all the hay I had down that day I left the farm and when I got to the border I found out that Kelly was just admitted to St Mary's hospital in Grand Rapids. By the time I got there Brock was already born.
What a blessing especially for Jane to be there for the delivery. Grandchild number 14 no less.
All of the family is doing well as far as we know and met up with them all at different times.
That number is down to a crawl now and may well be losing its momentum all together. Lol.
Jane and I are now back home again and picking up where we left off. There is a bit of 1st cut hay left to be cut yet but may wait out this week as the forecast is a little ifee.
Looking forward meeting up with some family and friends who are coming over from the Netherlands soon and the 50th anniversary of brother Henk and his wife Irene. Where does the time go.
Thank you to all of you for your interest in our lives and the many prayers you offer on our behalf.
We know that a number of you are travelling a very similar journey and our prayers are with you also.
Jane and I may still get to spend a week at a cottage near Orillia in early August and hope to write about that in the next blog. We wish you all God's speed.  Marinus & Jane.

March 2016
Well the middle of March is almost here and winter will soon be officially past for an other nine months. March 12 marked not only Marcel's 36 birthday but also the fourth anniversary of the confirmation of the biopsy results from Jane. Both the meetings with the surgeon and the oncologist are still clearly edged in our minds,  I remember sitting down, trying to process what the surgeon had just told Monic, Christine and myself (and Jane still in recovery). The following words were "dropped" in my conciousness:   For you today everything changed, but for Me nothing changed,
for I do not change. I am not saying now, oops what am I going
                                                     to do with Jane.
That was the whole of the message and I have been hanging on to this, especially at times when the going was difficult. To know that God does not have a plan B for our lives but we are always on plan A has been a great comfort.
This winter has been different for us in Williamsford. We have had only a couple of one or two heavy snow days. But overall not a lot of snow, as well as no extreme long cold periods.
Been able to visit not only with the Heenes in London (when we would meet with Dr Vincent) but also a couple of times already this year with the rest of the clan in Moline, Crown Point and Jenison.
We are looking forward to hopefully more family time this summer.
With Jane now on the same medication for over 12 months, travelling further away from Ontario is more of a possibility, but we have no plans as yet.
Needless to say that we are looking forward to this July when Benj and Kelly are expecting their latest addition to their family.
Hoping this blog finds all of you in good health and spirit. An e-mail from you readers would be much appreciated by the both of us.  nrdrmr@xplornet.com  or  marinusnoordermeer@yahoo.ca

2016 New Year

2016 New Years message.
Hope this message finds all of you in good heath and at peace.
2015 was a year in which we were saddened with passing of a number of friends, both in the Netherlands as well as here in Canada. Our thoughts and prayers are often with and for those who are left behind.
It is with deep thankfulness that Jane and I have closed the old year and started the new.
We celebrated Christmas in the Grand Rapids area. For two days we had the whole "clan" together at the Hyatt in Wyoming Mi.
Think you can imagine how blessed we feel to have experienced this, with all of our children and grandchildren. On March 12 (a date we remember for a number of reasons) it will be 4 years that
the oncologist suggested that we not make any plans beyond the 7 months mark.
Since then we welcomed Lucas and Evan Noordermeer and Wesley Heene into our family. And on Christmas Eve, Benj and Kelly shared that they are expecting their 3rd child around July 4.
Are we blessed or what?
Kevin and Christine have their oldest two, Noah and Gideon, as junior and freshman in high school and Tristan, Wyatt and Tehya between grade seven and one of grade school.
Justin and Monic's oldest, Christian is in grade one of grade school and Wesley is at home.
Marc and Shelly's girls, Annika, Brynne, Kambria and Maren are all in grade school, between grade seven and kindergarten.
Benj and Kelly have Lucas and Evan still at home.
Noah already has his drivers license and will soon have to consider his options for post secondiary education.
It is an absolute joy for us to see how giftings in all of them are starting to be developed, in faith in Jesus, academia, music ,sports and other areas.
We are priviledged to watch our grandchildren's parents establish their homes and encouraging their children to follow Jesus as they themselves do.
Much of Kevin's time is spent on guiding Moline Christian school as principal and chief administrator with Christine doing some child care at home , Justin's business, Nevtro takes up a lot of his time as well as the odd 16 holes of golf, with Monic on maternity leave at home.
Marc is busy launching his own business of heating and cooling services with Shelly picking up hours at the hospital in Crown Point In. hospital prenatal department on the weekends.
Kelly still works at Christian Rest Home on Grand Rapids's westside.
Benj is awaiting the "final" final decision of the US immigration dept. as to whether he has to leave the US or not. Both Benj and Kelly have God's peace about having to move to Canada if that is where He wants them, but Jane and I are still praying (interceding on their behalf -  as John19:11A says that God gives authority to those in authority over us, then by extension He can change their mind too) that they may be allowed to raise their family where they themselves choose. For if he is forced to move to Canada, then there may very well be a restriction on his travel into the USA. If you feel prompted please pray with us on this issue.
Jane and I are doing well. At our last visit in London the doctors shared that the latest CT scan does not show any progression since may 2015. So we just keep on "trucking".
Next visit in London January 6. Because of the holidays, this meeting coming will be  35 days since the last one and because of the clinical trail regulations they could only give us 28 daily pills. So we are a few pills short. The doctors assured us that there was no risk in doing this.
We have learned in a very real way that our lives are not ours, but belong to our Savior Jesus.
Our God still heals and restores and at the same time also allows medical personnel and treatment to benefit us.
As for myself, I got a message from the nurse of our personal physician that I should give blood for some testing. The results of which are probably forthcoming in the next week or two, but we entrust that to God as well.
Still have some cows, calves and meat goats in the barn. So that, as well as some machining and fabricating gives me still opportunities to challenge myself. The hay fields are dormant now and as of yesterday covered with snow, but trust that God will revive nature again in due time.
For me springtime "screams out" the reality of the intelligent design of a Creator who loves His creation and in particular humanity which he created after His own image.
We thank God for all of you, our family and our many friends, may He bless you richly.
We remind ourselves often and encourage you all to keep looking up for He is coming soon.                    Marinus & Jane.

P.S. Let us know if you read our blog by sending us a short note. (nrdrmr@xplornet.com) God bless all of you.

Midsummer Update

August 2015
Well, well here we are 8 months after our last posting.
At the time of our last writing  Jane had just started on the Affatinib post approved clinical trial in London. This treatment has us travel to London every 28 days and usually we travel the day before and stay at hotel " Justin and Monic Heene" on High street which is pretty well around the corner from Victoria Hospital on Commissioners Road. And we get to see Christian and now Wesley as well.
Just returned from Jane's latest appointment a few hours ago. Dr Vincent is pleased with the treatment results, as no progression of the cancer cells is observed.
Her blood is tested every 28 days as well as an X-ray is taken at that time in London.
Besides that a CT Scan is taken every 8 weeks in Owen Sound, the results of which are forwarded to London. She still receives bone enhancer every 4 weeks in Owen Sound as well as visits every 3 months with Dr Aboo.  She continues to be on anti-depressants and other medications to deal with the side affects where possible, but it all keeps her an a fairly "even keel".
We know ourselves to be blessed in particular thru the prayers of so many of you the world over and the ministry of brothers and sisters from the First CRC of Owen Sound. On occasion we take advantage of the freezer meals that are available there and 2 ladies have come over at times to give the main floor a cleaning.
We were able to rent the cottage on Lake Couchiching for 2 weeks. Marc and Benj and there families were not able to come, but were able to host the Salls and Mo with Christian and Wesley in the first week. Lake water was 80 degrees farhenheit so swimming all the time. To warm for serious fishing.
With the goat herd gone, it does not take much time to look after the cows, veal and calves in barns.
Was able to harvest the first cut of hay, of which I sold 325 large bales (4x5) off the field and the rest is stored in the tarpbarns for later sale.
Besides the maintenance of our own equipment, I still get opportunities to do some machining and fabricating in my own shop, which I still enjoy very much.
Still trying to organize the shops which is taking forever, but Benj said: Remember Dad it took you more then 20 years to make this "chaos" so it is going to take a bit longer.
Well here you have the latest in our lives.
When ever I write a blog it feels like I am always "blowing my own horn", as this is only a one way conversation. As well as we do not know who reads this blog. Truth is we are very much interested in what is happening in your lives. So please let us know if you like this blog via nrdrmr@xplornet.com
Blessings to you all.  Marinus & Jane.

Soon we will hope to celebrate Christmas.

Dec 15 '14
As you can see on the date we are already halfway December and Christmas is just around the corner.
In our last blog we mentioned that Jane was accepted for the post approval clinical trial with the drug Afatinib, pending that subsequent tests would produce results that were within the parameters the drug manufacturer stipulates. In the appointment on December 3 we reviewed all the daily documentation the drug company requires, as well as x-rays were taken and together with the last  C/T scan taken in Owen Sound, will be the bench mark for the analyses of any future testing.
The most common side affects for this drug are loose stools and serious skin irritations, both of which are not a serious problem so far. Think you know what is part of what we are praying for. Again we are most thankful for all of you who hold us up in prayer and other ways.
Looking forward to meet with our children and grandchildren for our family Christmas. It has been some time since we were all in one place. But we are not complaining about some of them living       aways from us. I ,Marinus, moved an ocean away from my parents and they never said a cross word to me about it. Are so blessed to see them live their lives with purpose  and are thankful, for them letting us be part of their families lives.
Closing with wishing you all a most blessed season and God be with you till we meet again, either in person or by way any of the ways we communicate these days if distance prevents us from meeting face to face.  With love Jane & Marinus.

A new course of action.

Here we are almost halve way in November with the possibility of snow in the forecast.
Last week our oncologist Dr Aboo shared with us the results of the latest CT scan and there is what the radiologist called an Interval Progression and concern that the Alimta is becoming less effective. Aboo shared that he had expected to be at this juncture way back in late 2012 and therefore this did not come as a surprise to him.
His recommendation is to go with a treatment called Erlotinib or Tarceva.
It is a targeting drug and comes in pill form and is taken daily.
He also shared that he would support us in getting a second opinion and that brought us to London yesterday where we met with among others Dr Vincent, who shared that if Jane met all the critartia she could be enrolled in an approved clinical study treatment offered by the drug manufacturer for Afatinib which is a "turbo" version of Erlotinib thru the London Cancer Clinic.
This will run in 28 day cycles and for the duration of 12 months and can be extended after that without the burden of providing the information the study requires us to collect.
Jane with my and Monic's (she was with us at the meeting) support decided to seek enrolment.
There does not seem to be a great change in how Jane has been feeling overall for the last while.
It seemed to all of us as prudent to make the change at this time.
Dr Vincent said up front that he cannot heal Jane from this, but thru eye contact between the three of us we regonized we know the One who can.
So we accept the available medical treatment but continue to pray for God's intervention and are so appreciative of all of you who are standing with us in this.
We often reflect on Jane's 60th birthday last year and our 40th wedding anniversary last June which are both unforgettable for us. Thank you again for all of you who celebrated these events with us.
YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!
We continue to look for the good things and blessings in every day.
If we do not get to update this blog before the Christmas season we wish you all a very blessed holiday time. Let us all remember that ==JESUS is the reason for the season==.
